Our Engagement Story
Well, I know that some of you are wondering when did he ask the question and how did he ask it. I would be happy to tell you in this post. It was on a Sunday morning - Feb. 18 2007. He would always come to my house before breakfast and we would do some devotions together before that rest of the family got up. Well, that morning I had decided to make him a cup of coffee, which I did on other occasions. He came a little bit earlier than normal. I was in the middle of making coffee and I had spilled some coffee grinds on the ground. So while I was cleaning them up - I was on my hands and knees - David was thinking that NOW was NOT the time to propose to her (there was something wrong with the picture - Sonya was on her hands and knees and not David). So, he waited until I was all done cleaning up the mess and had the coffee on. I was leaning against the counter and all of a sudden he has a box in his hand and says "Sonya will you marry me?" I on the other hand, just looked at the ring and said, "I can't believe you just did that"!!!! He said to me, "And your answer is?" I said (of course) "Yes, I will marry you." To our great delight, we told my parents - who came down the stairs, a couple of minutes later - and they were very happy for us. Then we called David's side of the family, and my brothers (Ryan and Rachel & Shane and Anita) and they were all happy for us also. We talked for about 45 more minutes, and then I said that I had to go and tell my only sister. I went upstairs into our room and just stood there. She looked at me and said, "You are engaged." All I did was just shake my head, "Yes". She looked at me and said, "You are just joking with me". (Just so that you all know, I had bugged her a couple of times, saying that I was engaged before - when I was not, so she did no believe me right away.) When she kept looking at me, she then realized that I was NOT joking. She jumped out of bed, and ran to me. I have never seen her more happy in my life (she also woke up the rest of the family and David heard it all the way downstairs). When we were around the table, Steven, Chad, and Justin all CONGRATULATED us. The rest of the day was spent, talking about the engagement, having fellowship, relaxing, possible dates, who we would like in the wedding party, and many more wonderful ideas. This was the whirlwind planning for the next 6 months of our lives. In a week or so, we will have the wedding pictures up, so keep looking.
